Women 'soothed in bed by partner reading aloud'

22/04/2010

A study has suggested many British women are soothed off to sleep at night by the sound of their partners reading food reviews.

The survey by Carte Noire said 70 per cent of men read to their partner's in bed, with women prefering romantic classics and selections from travel guides and food publications.

Two thirds also said they would be more affectionate with partners who read to them, with behavioural expert Judi James saying it's all in the voice.

She said that 'intimate tones' can be relaxing and even seductive.

Research published this year by experts at Israel's University of Haifa in the journal Sleep suggested keeping a regular routine can cut the chances of struggling to get to sleep at night and even make the quality of sleep better.
