Treatment for sleep apnoea to improve your rest

28/12/2011

Ways to improve the quality of sleep are once again being debated by scientists, with a number of studies being conducted to help people sleep better during the festive period. One theory coming from a team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi is that having treatment for sleep apnoea may have more benefits than just tackling the symptoms.

They found that patients using a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine helped to lower cholesterol, blood pressure and stomach fat. As a result there may be a significant improvement in the health of the heart. Experts from the University of Sydney have expressed doubts about the theory that playing with gadget before retiring has an effect on people’s sleep. They analysed data from 1992, 1997 and 2006 which showed very little change in the amount of time people spent in bed.
