Strategic bedroom lighting can impact winter blues

05/01/2012

When you are thinking about new lighting for your bedroom, some thought should be given to which lighting to choose. A spokesperson for Light IQ, Natalie Timmerman, explained that your mood can be considerably affected  by lighting, more so during the winter months. For Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) sufferers it is very important that the level of lighting is correct.

Ms Timmerman added that people will feel happier if they increase artificial lighting to compensate for natural daylight being so low. Replacing existing lamps with more efficient and brighter ones is on of the more simple solutions she said. Another feature that could be implemented is the installation of a skylight or installing different levels of lighting. According to figures from the NHS, around seven per cent of the population suffer from SAD, many of them in their 20s.
