Skip sleep at your peril, says council

26/07/2010

Lack of proper bed rest can have a big knock-on effect on someone's health and relationships, according to warnings from experts.

The Sleep Council said lack of sleep can harm someone's mental health and even lead to depression.

Council spokesperson Jessica Alexander said this is because depression can also be a symptom and cause of poor sleep.

She also said not enough bed rest can also have an influence on someone's mood, which can even start to impact on relationships.

She added: "If you are well-rested and feeling good, you are going to be much more cheerful to be around. So by default, sleep will affect a relationship."
