It is often difficult trying to get used to a newborn baby’s sleep-pattern. For many parents it is an almost impossible task, which impacts negatively on their own bedtime routine. Each child is different, with some sleeping the whole night through and others waking up at sporadic intervals throughout the night. In the first few months after birth, it is commonplace for babies to behave in this way, but usually the unpredictable sleep-patterns will gradually give way to a more sound, regular sleeping schedule. The US Safety Consumer Product Safety Commission this month announced a new set of compulsory safety guidelines for children's beds , which must be strictly adhered to. Cots, for example, are required to have a safety-guard at least 5 inches higher than the mattress , running around them.
