MPs 'sleeping on floors' in Parliament

02/07/2010

Some MPs have ended up sleeping on the floors of their Commons offices after their second home allowances were removed, according to reports.

Mark Field, Conservative MP for the cities of London and Westminster, said the affected representatives were paying for the errors of previous generations.

He said: "With these new rules quite a number of MPs have taken to sleeping on the floor in their office.

"We have gone from a very lax system to a highly bureaucratic and strict regime."

Mr Field said a number of these MPs were reluctant to come forward as they are warned by Commons authorities not to sleep in the building.

One Tory MP stated he was "just getting on with it" and had opted to sleep on the floor in order to be close to constituents.

A study from Travelodge has recently revealed about 75 per cent of UK workers find it hard to drift off at night due to job worries.
