A group of MPs representing a number of parties have added to calls for more action to raise awareness of obstructive sleep apnoea, which can affect driving ability.Their involvement may benefit professional drivers who could be working regularly after not getting enough sleep, RoadTransport.com says. The condition means sufferers' airways become blocked, leading to poor sleep quality and some people even falling asleep at the wheel.Talking to the site, MP Norman Lamb said: "Research suggests that obstructive sleep apnoea can lead to the same poor reaction time and judgement as someone who is over the drink-drive limit; they are between six and 15 times more likely to be involved in a road crash."A father of five hit the news this week after severe sleep apnoea meant he had been unable to get more than 45 minutes of sleep each night until he lost weight.
