Light sleepers 'should look at reasons' for problems

14/06/2010

Experts have said people who struggle to get to sleep at night should look carefully at why they might be finding it difficult to doze.

Author of the good sleep guide, Sammy Margo, replied to a reader in the Daily Telegraph, saying a number of aspects can affect sleeplessness.

Factors can include light and temperature, which can both affect the ability to drift off.

"Is your bed more than eight years-old and are your pillows still supportive? Are you sleeping in the best position for you?," the expert asked.

Ms Margo also said some medicines can cause anxiety, meaning doctors should be asked if they can be switched to another treatment.

Daniel Freeman from the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London recently said a lack of sleep can lead to paranoia.
