People in Japan have been asked by the government to consider going to bed earlier in order to control CO 2 emissions.The Independent reported settling down for a night just one hour before the usual time will cut a home's electricity consumption by 20 per cent.This is because people stay up and use household appliances like televisions which are not switched on when homeowners are in the land of nod.Government officials are also asking the country to switch to energy efficient light bulbs and to turn off lights they are not using.The report said the goal is to cut Japan's CO 2 emission level by 25 per cent on figures seen in 1990.Hotel chain Travelodge recently published a study saying UK workers are losing a significant amount of sleep over job related worries, with bankers and civil servants among the most affected.
