Insomnia combated by keeping sleep diary

Insomnia is a problem that many people suffer from and can turn to something more serious as people become increasingly tired. One method that can help is keeping a sleep diary. There are many factors which can cause insomnia including everything that is eaten and drunk in the few hours leading up to bed time and this should be recorded in the diary. Coffee and tea should be avoided as they contain caffeine which can make it more difficult to fall asleep.

Another thing to be avoided is consuming a large amount of food before retiring for the evening. The body will have a problem digesting the food and it means it will be harder to fall asleep. In an article recently published in the Evening Tribune, Linda Castor, a nurse and psychotherapist at the Illinois Clock Tower Therapy Centre, said that for at least four hours before going to bed, alcohol, coffee and tea should be avoided.
