Eat well and sleep soundly for exam success

15/02/2011

Being well rested before sitting an exam is crucial, as the benefits of a good rest will help ensure that both mind and body are on the ball, according to the Times of India.

Exams are a stressful experience, the article noted, so spending plenty of time in bed will help to minimise the impact.

Shipra Mathur, a diet and fitness consultant, told the news provider that diet also plays an important part over the examination period, as a healthy regimen will make sure the body has the nutrition it needs.

Ms Mathur said that vitamin C is a vital part of a diet in the lead-up to exams. ''Lemon juice and other citrus fruits should be added to the diet to remain fresh and active even after hours of studying,'' she said.

The dietician added: ''When the examination schedule is tight, students hardly get time to involve in physical activity which also helps in building the internal strength. Therefore, eating right also works in terms of making the body strong. During breakfast, a good combination of protein-rich  foods should be consumed''.

As well as some words of advice, Ms Mathur also advised some caution. "For studying late in the night, high protein should not be consumed as these are not easy to digest and also add on to the weight," she said.
