Ditch gadgets for a good night's rest - experts

16/07/2010

Gadgets should be banned from the bedroom to guarantee a calmer night's sleep, according to a US report.

An article in the Philadelphia Inquirer said more and more people are emailing, texting and social networking from under the bed clothes.

The twinkling of technology makes it harder to settle down at night, experts have maintained.

Meir Kryger, director of sleep research and education at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, underlined the problem of technology interfering in night routines.

The expert added: "You have people texting at all hours of the night. I had one patient whose problem was e-mail. He thought if he got an email at 2am, he should respond at 2am."

Phyllis Zee, a neuroscience professor at Northwestern University, has said the iPad could interfere with bed rest due to the light it gives off.
