Britons not wearing sun cream during outdoor naps

02/08/2011

A survey has revealed that 20% of British adults are more concerned with getting a suntan than protecting their skin when they take naps out in the sun.

Budget hotel chain Travelodge carried out the research, which also found that 49% of people don’t remember to apply sun cream.

Leigh McCarron, Travelodge sleep director, said: "For many, the temptation of sun, sea, sand and snoozing without protection will lead to a painful encounter; such as prickly heart, sun stroke and even being burnt."

The company recommends setting an alarm when sleeping in the sun, to limit how long the skin is exposed for.
