Bedtime routines conducive to children's quality of sleep

11/04/2011

Bedtime routines, often maligned by children the world over, and dreaded by their parents, are in fact beneficial and vital for a child's rest and well-being.

Planning out the evening routine is extremely helpful, as most children like to know what they will be doing next, therefore it is important to relay to your child what they will be doing after brushing their teeth, for example.

Baths are just as valuable in helping youngsters nod off as they raise body temperatures slightly, making it easier to fall asleep.

The child's bedroom environment is important to rest, a clean and tidy room producing positive results. The use of bedtime stories is increasingly important, as well as conversing with the child about the day's events. It is always important to mention something you are proud of, to send them off to sleep on a positive note.

Furthermore, obvious measures, such as blocking out noise and light (including laptops and games consoles) are also helpful.
