Bedtime routine necessary for kids

19/01/2012

One of the least interesting parts of the day for children is bedtime and often, as a result, parents can struggle to get children to go to sleep. The author of  Toddlers: An Instruction Manual, life coach, Joanne Mallon  explained that stress in the evening can be avoided by the foundation of a bedtime routine. A routine helps establish in the mind of a child that it is time to calm down and get ready to go to bed.

Ms Mallon elaborated that the absence of a set routine often resulted in excitable behaviour at the very time when the opposite is required. While on occasion excitement at bedtime does not present difficulties, problems can develop if it becomes the norm. An ideal bedtime routine is one that lets a child first expend their energy with some play and then create a calm atmosphere by having a bath and getting ready for bed followed by a story before sleeping.
