Aberdeen labelled restless sleep hot-spot

24/05/2010

Residents of Aberdeen appear to be among some of the most restless sleepers, after the city came bottom in a shut-eye survey looking at how well residents take to their beds.

The city has a sleep satisfaction score of only 62 per cent, proclaimed the Great British Sleep survey, with Dundee also on 65 per cent, according to The Scotsman.

The study was conducted by Professor Colin Espie, who is director of the University of Glasgow's Sleep Centre.

He told the paper: "Sleep is a fundamental life process, just like eating and drinking, yet many people have poor sleep and suffer the consequences. Sleep is lifes refuelling station."

He also said a number of people find it hard to connect what is going on in their lives with an inability to get decent sleep.

His comments follow the discovery by Professor Thomas Pollmaecher of the German Society of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurological Healing, who has told timeslive.co.za that work problems can often be connected to a lack of good sleep.
