Purchasing a second hand mattress is not something that should be considered, as there is no way of knowing where it has come from. It may seem like a good idea at the time but there are a number of things to be considered. Firstly, there is a good chance that the mattress is infested with bed bugs which will make sleeping very uncomfortable. Secondly, it may seem like a bargain but it will need to be replaced much sooner than a brand new mattress. Another reason for not purchasing a second hand mattress is that it is very likely that the springs will not be in a good condition which may lead to back problems. Contrary to public opinion, bed bugs do not only survive in mattresses but can be found throughout the home and eliminating them can be very costly. Holiday makers were recently advised by the Restoration Industry Association to check their luggage for bed bugs before travelling home.
