Having too much on your mind not a good way to rest

09/08/2010

A sleep expert in Canada has underlined that there could be numerous reasons for a lack of sleep when you hit the mattress.

Stress was only one of the bad things affecting one's quality of sleep that was picked up on by Toronto's Cleveland Clinic Canada's director of psychology, Jacqueline M Brunshaw.

Brunshaw pointed out such things as restless leg syndrome and chronic pain as some of symptoms which are not as well known, when speaking to the Vancouver Sun.

What we eat, drink, watch or listen to can also have an effect, she added, pointing out that, "whether that's food, or an hour of late night news or last-minute work on the computer.

"These activities stimulate us on some level and keep us from going into the deeper stages needed for a restorative sleep."

According to this expert, the "list is endless" of things that can prevent us from getting a good night's sleep, and stressed that people should take stock of their own routines.

Brunshaw's advice follows recent claims that children between 13 and 19 ought to be pointed towards getting a good night's sleep during the summer.
