Each sleeper needs an individual mattress for their bed

22/02/2011

Selecting the right mattress is all about personal preference, one expert has suggested.

Each person will need a different level of support from their mattress and this part of the bed is not 'one size fits all', noted Dr Robert Oexman of the Sleep to Live Institute.

He told eturbonews.com that mattress consultants are often best placed to know which styles suit which customers, since these advisors look at the height and weight of the sleeper along with the lumbar curves in the body. Whenever possible, customers should use the knowledge of these consultants when buying a new mattress for double beds and king-sized beds.

Dr Oexman highlighted that when visiting a hotel or guest house, people often find it difficult to sleep because they do not have the level of comfort they expect while they are at home.

According to Dr Oexman, people create "sleep comfort zones", which are hard to emulate outside of their own properties. ''The sleep zone is highly individualistic and includes everything from a favorite stuffed bunny to thread count and an open window. Some people prefer satin sheets while others select flannel or cotton. What everyone is actually looking for is a sheet/bed-feel that reminds them of home,'' he commented.
