Could we be hitting the mattress in greener homes?

29/07/2010

The question of whether UK residents could be hitting the mattress in greener homes was raised after it was claimed that homebuilders are increasingly sourcing environmentally friendlier materials.

Vernon Pethard, founder of newhomesforsale.co.uk stated that builders are finding more and more ground-breaking ways to find greener materials for home building.

Pethard claims that there is constant research being carried out in the building trade in order to investigate environmentally friendly construction methods, meaning that more people could be sleeping on a mattress in an energy efficient home.

He went on to say that "everyone is becoming more conscious of environmental issues and house builders have been working harder than ever to create energy efficient homes and more sustainable construction,"
These comments followed the Green Investment Bank Commissions report which stated that improving the energy efficiency of the UKs housing stock was one of the key ways to reduce carbon emissions.

The report also suggested that offering subsiding schemes and low interest loans would be a good way to encourage homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient.
