Work stress must be ditched for good sleep

24/05/2010

A truly deep sleep can only be gained if a person is able to shake off the stress of a working day, one researcher has said.

In an article on timeslive.co.za, professor Thomas Pollmaecher of the German Society of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurological Healing, said frequent breaks should be taken through the working day.

He said this would allow employees time to relax and so potentially improve the quality of sleep.

The professor also warned eating fatty foods not long before bed can also lead to a disturbed sleep.

Footballer Wayne Rooney has recently said in the Sun he needs a constant sound in the background in order to drift off.

His tactics include sleeping on the floor on long-haul flights so he can hear the engine noise.
