A company has devised a new machine which is said to tackle obstructive sleep apnoea with bi-level airway pressure technology. People who struggle with the condition while asleep in bed at night could get some relief from the new continuous positive airway pressure machine.It supplies a flow of pressurised air though a mask to keep the user's airway open and up the quality of sleep.Philips Respironics' newest Sleep Therapy System also features other elements designed to improve comfort and the effectiveness of the technology.Donald Spence, chief executive officer of Philips Home Healthcare Solutions, said: "In designing the new system, we took a smarter approach to the entire sleep management process and married our clinically-proven technologies together in one rigorously engineered device to better support patient care."Obstructive sleep apnoea is thought to affect about 3.5 per cent of men in the UK and 1.5 per cent of women.
