New double bed can cure aches and pains

01/04/2011

An expert has advised people who suffer from aches and pains when they sleep to invest in a new double bed – or at least a new mattress .

Jessica Alexander of the Sleep Council told the Daily Mirror: "Research shows that after six to ten years your mattress may have deteriorated by as much as 70 per cent". Ms. Alexander also made the point that a worn out double bed is not going to provide adequate support for people as they sleep, thus exacerbating any existing aches and pains.

A double mattress that sags in the middle or is lumpy is probably past its best, added Ms. Alexander.

Meanwhile an article in the Pakistani Daily Mail advised people to be selective when choosing their new double mattresses, considering how much time they would be spending on them. Perry Davis, a division president at bed manufacturers Leggett & Platt told the paper: "You'll spend a third of your life on it over the next eight to ten years.” He added that a minimum of 350 coils is necessary for a single bed and 580 for a king-size bed.
