Kids need encouragement when moving into their first beds

13/06/2011

It is always difficult when the time comes for a child to move into their first bed. This can often be a stressful procedure for both child and parent, however, this needn't be the case.

A parent must try to make the procedure as simple and easy as possible. One effective means of doing so is talking to the youngster about it and explaining why it is necessary for them to move into their new bed.

Alternately, a few trial nights in their new bed may help them get used to it. One effective trick is to place the bed in the same position as the cot. Children are comforted by familiarity, so this can sometimes be beneficial.

While excessive television is obviously detrimental to sleep, letting children watch some familiar characters from their favourite children’s TV programme an hour or so before they sleep can help relax them in preparation for slumber.
