A sleep expert has said a decent bout of shut-eye is as vital to health as a good diet and exercise.Specialist Dr Neil Stanley underlined the importance of bed rest in a piece for the Daily Mail, but noted the 'eight hours' rule for sleep does not apply to everyone.Instead he said people can need anything from 11 hours to four hours per night to reach their required level of rest.He also said that on average Britons sleep for seven hours and 15 minutes.He also listed alcohol and worrying as prime causes of poor bed rest, while also saying caffeine can harm sleep.Tips on getting enough decent sleep include winding down slowly before heading to bed.Health campaigners have also recently suggested lessons for school children include advice on getting a good night's sleep.
