Although Apple's trendy iPad may be the most fashionable gadget going, it could have its drawbacks when it comes to getting some sleep.Scientists have said people should switch off electronic devices including the likes of iPads, for a minimum of two hours before drifting off.Phyllis Zee, a neuroscience professor at Northwestern University, said gizmos with backlights which are bright can awaken the brain, making it harder to settle into sleep.She told CNN: "I think more importantly, it could also be sufficient to affect your circadian rhythm."This is the clock in your brain that determines when you sleep and when you wake up."Researchers have said reading a book does not have the same effect because a lamp by the bed is not directly running to the eyes.Alon Avidan, a neurologist and associate director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of California, has drawn similar conclusions.
