Drinkers are still not linking a heavy night with poor sleeping patterns, according to new research from the government.Almost 50 per cent of 2,000 drinkers who took part in a poll said they felt tired the day after consuming more than the recommended daily amount of alcohol.Almost 60 per cent had no idea that this was a consequence of overdoing it, according to the research, conducted by the Know Your Limits campaign and YouGov.Jessica Alexander, from the Sleep Council, said alcohol can affect the chemical processes carried out by the body which are needed for a good night's bed rest.Ms Alexander said: "If you find yourself drinking above the recommended daily limits most days of the week, your body may be constantly trying to catch up and then it's likely you'll never feel fully alert or equipped to deal with the stresses and strains of daily life."Conservative party leader David Cameron recently pledged to target late-night drinking and firm up laws on the sale of alcohol at low prices.
