Department store claims poor "bediquette' causes relationship problems

31/03/2010

Department store Debenhams have discovered that poor etiquette in bed can lead to strife between partners, and often to one of them swapping their mattress for the couch.

The retail outlet claim that nearly 75 percent of the country have contemplated breaking up with their other half due to these poor bed manners, while four in five say they have considering spending a night on the couch and 78 percent have thought about moving out.

In addition, most people will put up with a poor standard of rest rather than face the embarrassment of having individual beds, which they think makes relationships unromantic, claimed Steve Lightfoot, trading director for the home department at Debenhams.

"For this reason we are also looking into cushion bed-dividers to guard against flailing arms and legs. Going to bed could be a military operation, but we are keen to try to find solutions for these problems," Lightfoot said.

The author Paul C Rosenblatt recently told the Daily Telegraph that sharing beds is "an achievement in coordination," adding that people in a relationship have to be able to share a mattress comfortably.
