Decorate your bedroom with your experience

08/02/2011

Homeowners should avoid following the latest trends when decorating their bedrooms and instead opt for fashionable beds and other items that reflect their own lifestyles, an expert has suggested.

Christina Dole, who is an interior decorator, highlighted that too many people fall for the latest trends as opposed to developing their own fashion habits over time – tendencies which help to create rooms that can maximise the homeowner’s experience.

“This is the beginning of a lifelong process of style,” said Ms Dole in South West Coast Today. “You could buy a piece of furniture today and 50 years from now it’s going to be worth something, but you really don’t know if that style is going to come back. If you buy something, make sure it’s something you love. Furniture is something you have to live with. Consider who you are and what you are.”

One of the hardest problems people have when redecorating is knowing where to begin, so Ms Dole recommends refurbishing the room in which the homeowner spends the most time. For many people this is the bedroom.

Ms Dole commented: “If you like to sit and read books and have a glass of wine, then consider really good lighting and comfy chairs because the times you’re home, you want to maximise the experience.”
