Homeowners should face up to bed bugs and tackle them head on to avoid potential embarrassment, according to one commentator.Karen Youso of the Star Tribune highlighted the issue of the persistent beasts, saying attention should be drawn to them as ignoring bedbugs will not mean they go away. The tiny biting creatures do not spread disease but can develop into an infestation across a home, cropping up on furniture, curtains, carpets and even toys.Although they do not spread disease, Ms Youso said people should keep their eyes open for them.Bedbugs tend to have a flat brown shape and cannot fly, although they can change appearance after feasting on a victim, turning into a cigar shaped creature with a purple-red colour.Experts say people should change bed linen at least once a week and ensure it is washed in hot water.Homeowners can also carefully check any secondhand furniture for signs of the creatures before moving it into the house.
