More money is being spent on children's beds now than has been the case in the past, a piece for the Edinburgh Evening News has suggested. The article emphasised that, with so many themed and spacious beds available, a second-hand single bed is no longer preferable for many youngsters. Beds in the style of Formula One cars for boys, along with princess castle-style children's beds for girls – both with matching décor – are just some of the designs in vogue in kids' bedrooms. Jo Avery, of furnishing specialist Jonathan Avery, suggested that parents are investing more in children's beds for their kid's rooms and spending more time ensuring that they are perfect. "It's not unusual for parents to buy double beds for their children these days. Children seem to go straight from cot to double bed," she noted. As the rest of the house will most likely be dressed according to the adults' preference, this stylistic attitude is spreading to their kids' bedrooms, Ms Avery added. "There are parents who really don't want Thomas The Tank Engine," she said. "They want something that will last - so they might have plain pastel colours for the bedding and brighten the rooms with pretty accessories."
