Caveman rest tips for light sleepers

21/05/2010

Light sleepers who struggle to get a good night's rest could learn from our more primitive ancestors, according to the author of a book.

Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, who wrote Tired But Wired: How to Overcome Your Sleep Problems, said paying attention to the patterns of cavemen could help.

The Daily Mail reported her tips include taking the opportunity every 90 minutes to walk around and day dream, or have a quick nap in the manner of our ancestors.

According to the paper, Dr Ramlakhan said: "Passing out for hours at a time may not have been conducive to our safety and survival, so throughout the day we rested in short phases, whenever we could, to build our energy for hunting and gathering."

People not too keen to alter their lifestyles could instead turn to the more straightforward advice of the US Better Sleep Council, which reccomends changing a mattress every five years.
