A comfy and effective bed and mattress could be the secret to success at university, it has been suggested.

According to The Ram Fordham University's McGinley Student Center counselling and psychological services assistant director has said students can suffer from sleep issues which can impact on them mentally and physically.

Adam Rosen told the student publication: "It can affect your mood, concentration and focus. Insomnia is often associated with depression and can be caused by anxiety."

Recently the health blog Fit Sugar said that those at university may have problems with their backs and suffer sleep disturbances if they have bad mattresses.

The site suggests mattresses are replaced every five to seven years, but adds purchasers should try a different models to work out which one is best for them as a firm mattress may not be the solution for a back problem.
