It has been suggested that one way to create a whole new bedroom look is to renovate the beds headboard. And the good news is that this can be done on relatively small budget. According to the Gatehouse News Services Allecia Vermillion the bed head "makes a statement about the entire room". Vermillion made a few suggestions of how to make a bold new statement without forking out for a new bed frame. She went on to advise checking out local scrap yards for antique window frames or using old window panels to create the impression of a headboard.Another option would be to revitalise an old bed head by sanding it down and adding a new coat of paint. Vermillion suggested that a coat of black gloss paint would give an old headboard a contemporary, sleek image. She also proposed using a slip cover over a shaped headboard or creating a unique pattern using stencils.A report in the Houston Press suggested that the headboard could be creating a haven for bedbugs as many bugs use it as their hiding place.
