The Washington Post produces a weekly column called House Calls in which readers are asked to send in pictures of the areas of their homes they think need redesigning. One US reader was so thrilled with the design created for her bed by the column, she recreated in almost exactly. Alexandria resident Margaret Harris had concerns that her bed and mattress appeared extremely dated. The Post introduced Harris to interior designer Wanda A Alexander from Panache Interiors. Alexanders vision for Harris bedroom was inspired by the sun and comprised bedroom walls in shades of yellow and a yellow bed spread covering her mattress. According to the Reading Eagles Decorating Diary, one of the crucial decisions when planning a bedroom redesign is the colour of the bed spread. The Posts Joanie Freidman went as far as to say that the bed spread colour should be chosen before the wall colour, as there was a more limited choice when choosing a bed spread.
