Advice given to beat bedroom blues

30/03/2010

A study which showed Britons on average now do not get to bed until around twenty to midnight in the week has prompted a newspaper to print advice on getting good shut-eye.

The Metro looked at the figures, showing people now go to bed an hour later than three years ago, and noted stress, cash problems and long working hours were now keeping people awake.

The paper also noted sharing a bed with a loved one can also impact on sleep, with snoring wives and husbands listed as one of the main barriers to rest.

The Sleep Council's Jan Turner said getting a new mattress with a partner can also change things, as a bigger king-size instead of a traditional double can help with breathing space.

She said: "Separate duvets are a good idea if one of you is a wriggler or if one gets hotter than the other so you dont have to sacrifice comfort."

Sasha Stricker, president and creative director of online design firm decorateITonline, has said bamboo beds are now catching on among people who are after a more green form of furniture.
