Buying Guide

Our essential bed and mattress buying guide is full of handy tips to help you find your ideal bed.

The average life span of a mattress is around 10 years, in fact most people only sleep on 5 different mattresses throughout their lifetime. Since one third of your life will be spent in bed, it is well worth purchasing the best one that your budget will allow.

Try for yourself
Remember that comfort is very subjective and we would strongly recommend that you visit your local Rest Assured stockist to try a few of our beds for yourself.

If you share your bed with a partner it is important that you try the bed together to ensure you are both comfortable and supported.

Don’t just sit on the edge and bounce up and down, actually lie down and stay there for a while. Don’t be embarrassed about lying on the beds in the showroom – that is what they are there for!

Match mattress & base
It’s worth making sure the dimensions of any base and mattress sourced separately are compatible, two kings might not be quite the same size.

Rest Assured mattresses and divans are designed together to optimise comfort, support and compatibility.

Mattress features
The mattress is the heart of your bed and the part of the purchase you should spend most time and money on.

Pocket springs

Unlike open coil mattresses, which are made from one long piece of wire that is coiled into hundreds of springs, Pocket spring mattresses contain thousands of individual springs that are completely independent from one another.

When you lay on the mattress each spring responds individually to the contours of your body.

Pocket Springs are usually glued together above and below the springs. At Rest Assured, each spring is carefully packed into a pocket. And the pockets are glued together at the centre. This allows the springs to move completely independently to those around it giving every square inch of your body unique support.

The springs are closely packed in next to each other so there is no chance of sideways movement, which would result in dips in the mattress.

Pocket springs are also ideal if you & your partner are different sizes as the springs protect against “roll together”. As pocket springs provide exceptional support, they are also effective if you or your partner are a little on the heavy side.

As a general rule, the more pocket springs that there are in a mattress, the better the support. Comfort however is very subjective and we strongly recommend that you visit one of our stockists to try the beds for yourself.

Memory foam

Memory Foam Hand

As you lie on memory foam, it responds to your body temperature and moulds itself to your contours, creating an individually tailored surface that gives the optimum level of support and comfort. When you get up, it returns to its original shape, hence the name. An added bonus is that you’ll never have to turn the mattress.

Latex foam
Latex Foam

Natural latex, the “milk” of the Hevea Brasiliensis tree, is processed to create a plush comfort layer. The latex complements the responsive action of the springs, supporting your body and moulding to your contours.

Latex is naturally hypoallergenic and our latex is also aerated for effective ventilation. Our latex mattresses are extremely resilient so do not need to be turned.

Monza 1000 Pocket Tufted Mattress

Tufts are essential for holding the mattress together. They run from one side of the mattress to the other and ensure the springs have just the right level of tension. The two ends are visible at either side of the mattress.

It’s important that the exposed tufts are soft so they don’t interfere with the sleeping surface. Whilst our tufts are strong on the inside, they are soft to touch on the outside.

Side details

The sides of the mattress are sewn to the spring unit all the way around the mattress. Side handles are helpful for carrying and rotating the mattress. Air vents are placed intermittently around the mattress to allow air to circulate to keep you cool.

Base features

Drawer Open

Our divans are designed to work in harmony with our mattresses, so you can get the feel and storage options that are right for you.

Always remember that a ‘bed’ is a mattress and a base working together, you should not consider them in isolation and should ideally always try them together. We always recommend you buy them together because the two are designed and manufactured to complement one another in terms of support.

Your mattress may show visible signs of wear and tear but the base will have had equal pressure and strain – it just doesn’t show quite so clearly. Another point to watch out for is making sure the dimensions of any base and mattress separately sourced are compatible; two kings might not be quite the same size!

Platform top base
Platform top beds provide a solid platform for the mattress to rest on. The bases are upholstered and cushioned.

Sprung base
The base is topped with a layer of springs. When you lie on the bed, all the springs in the base combine with the springs in the mattress to give you a feeling of pure indulgence.

Storage options
Our divan bases can incorporate storage drawers in various configurations to suit your preferences and your room. Each drawer can hold up to 15kg.

2 Drawers

Rest Assured drawers are exceptionally well made and hardwearing. The 2 drawer option provides generous storage towards the foot of the bed.

 4 Drawers

The 4 drawer divan optimises all available space under the bed for storage. Two adjacent drawers run down the length of the bed on each side.

4 Drawers continental

Consider this option if you have bedside furniture that may prevent you from opening a full drawer at the head end of the bed.
